Support for the Mother and Child Home Evacuated from Mariupol

Support for the Mother and Child Home Evacuated from Mariupol

n March 2022, one of the Mother and Child Homes was forced to evacuate from Mariupol, a city in Donetsk region that was nearly destroyed by the Russian army. For almost a month, women with young children were trapped in a basement - without access to evacuation, water, or food. Eventually, they managed to escape the occupation and relocate to the relatively safer city of Dnipro.

These women had already fled domestic violence once - and now faced another challenge: rebuilding their lives from scratch. Today, the shelter is home to 21 people: 12 children and 9 women.

A few weeks ago, we received a request from colleagues who shared the urgent needs of the shelter: families had nothing to eat. The "Art of Aid" team could not stay indifferent. Thanks to the support of our long-standing partner foundation from the Netherlands, we were able to purchase essential food items (over 20 kg of meat, dairy products, grains, juices, sweets) and deliver individual children’s kits: toys, hygiene products, creative sets, fruit purees.

Our team also prepared dignity kits for the women: personal hygiene items and other essentials that help restore a sense of care and dignity, even in the hardest of times.
The children were genuinely happy to receive even packaged meat - and their joy was even greater when they saw the toys, juice, and sweets.

Together, we created a small celebration for those who have already experienced too much loss and pain at such a young age:
12 children and 9 women received not only essentials, but most importantly - felt that they are not alone!

With care,
The "Art of Aid" team
